Tamil Nadu State Board Exams

The Tamil Nadu Education Board is one of the oldest and the dominating education systems in India. The origin of the Education Department was first established in the year 1826 by the Governor of Madras Province named Sir Thomas Munro with the main objective to have the highest literacy both in the Tamil Nadu state and all over India. The first high school was opened in the year 1841, the state Secondary Education was established and in the year 1910 and the first SSLC Public Examination conducted all over the Tamil Nadu state was in the year 1911

Tamil Nadu Board of Secondary Education, established in 1910, is under the purview of the Department of Education, Government of Tamil Nadu, India. The Tamil Nadu State Board of School Examination evaluates students' progress by conducting three board examinations-one at the end of class 10 and the others at the end of class 11 & 12. The scores from the class 12 (combined with the class 11) board examinations are used by universities to determine eligibility and as a cut-off for admissions into their programmes.

The Directorate of Government Examinations was formed as a separate directorate in Feb.1975. Prior to the formation of Directorate Of Government Examinations, the then DPI/DSE was the ex-officio commissioner for Govt. exams and the department was having its office at Madras only. The first secondary school leaving certificate exam was conducted in the year 1911. This directorate started conducting the following major exams from the year noted against each of them in addition to the various examination.
